MEET THE DESIGNER! Matthew Christopher is Coming to LWD!
The one and only INCREDIBLE, charismatic, and talented designer Matthew Christopher will be at Little White Dress - along with his brand new collection - March 2nd through 4th, 2018! We have been proud to carry the Matthew Christopher bridal collection since the day we opened a little more than 10 years ago. In that time, we've watched Matthew grow from a talented young designer to a bridal industry powerhouse (and how amazing is it that he grew up on a pig farm in Iowa and started designing homecoming dresses for his friends when he was in high school?!). Matthew truly is the most fun designer in the biz, and it's always the highlight of the year when he visits, seeing so many brides fall in love with his gorgeous gowns and his BIG personality.
Appointments WILL be fully booked for our most popular trunk show of the year! Don't miss the unforgettable opportunity to choose and customize your wedding dress with the help of Matthew Christopher!
Before the trunk show, get a glimpse of a few of Matthew's newest gowns and see our Q&A with the designer!
LWD: How did you get into bridal?
Matthew: My love for fashion began at an early age. I learned to sew with my grandmother and neighbor while participating in 4-H. A large leap from his family farm, I began my bridal career at Demetrios Bridal as an intern, and I gained incredible hands on expertise as an assistant designer at One of a Kind Bridal.
LWD: What sets you apart from other bridal gown designers?
Matthew: The fit of my gowns is like no other in this industry. I take great pride in my ability to celebrate the female figure through fashion. The seaming, lace, beading and every element of my designs all focus on flattering the figure no matter what size the bride. We celebrate all sizes at Matthew Christopher.
LWD: What’s the inspiration for the latest collection?
Matthew: My inspiration for this collection came from listening to all the brides I meet across the US and abroad. Talking to the newest generation of bride, the millennial, has made a big impression on my newest collection. I wanted to propel my design style and the bridal industry forward with clean, modern fashion statement pieces. Reminiscent of iconic brides of years past who truly made an impression on their wedding day, I incorporated all the modern elements brides were asking for and gave them their bridal fashion “moment."
LWD: Do you have a favorite gown from this collection? Why is it your favorite?
Matthew: My favorite gown in my latest collection has to be Antoinette. I used beautiful silk faille and luxe Dior seaming on this gorgeous off-the-shoulder gown. It truly represents that clean, fresh future bride that will have all eyes on her. Never missing an opportunity to flatter the bride’s figure, I incorporated a pinay undercarriage, which gives the illusion of a tiny waist no matter what your size. The pearl buttons accented with Swarovski crystals highlight the wrapped back and luxuriousness of this actually very simple but statement gown.
LWD: What’s trending in bridal for 2018?
Matthew: Royal Weddings of course! We’re so excited for both royal weddings this year that we’ve created a Pinterest board full of our real brides who have captured that royal spirit. I’ve even created a gown inspiration for Meghan Markle, you can see it on our blog.
LWD: What’s a bridal trend you’re seeing less of this season?
Matthew: Brides are asking for clean, modern, head-turning looks. You can see we’ve added several of these styles to our collection this year! For example in the Couture collection our Sloan, Cameron, Ella, Gia and Nena are very fashion forward bold styles. In our Matty Collection we’ve featured the bold and whimsical styles brides are asking for including our Lopez, Macy, Hazel and Ruby gowns.
LWD: What kind of bride is a Matthew Christopher bride?
Matthew: She’s the type of bride looking for a gown that will last a lifetime and beyond. She’s glamorous, timeless and chic.
LWD: What advice do you give brides shopping for their wedding gown?
Matthew: 3 big pieces of advice! 1. Go with your gut! Don’t worry about what your friends, family or everyone in the peanut gallery has to say. You’ll know it’s the one when you step into “your" gown. 2. Don’t rely on your iPhone, it’s between you and mirror. The iPhone will never capture what you’re seeing in the mirror or the feeling you get when you are trying on the gown. Let your professional photographer bring out the best on your wedding day when it’s time to say “I do!” And 3. Bring photos to show your consultant! We recommend pinning your faves from our pinterest page to show the consultant what you are looking for whether it be a real bride or one of our line shots - check out our boards here.
