When we came across Emmy London, not only did we absolutely fall in love with the shoes, but we were also enchanted by the designer, oh-so-charmlingly-British Emmy Scarterfield. It's really no wonder that she's a favorite shoe designer of Kate Middleton, Claire Pettibone, and Charlie Brear.
Emmy said, 'I've always had a passion for shoes. I grew up in Somerset and my village was home to super brand 'Mulberry', so to launch my own luxury label didn't seem that unrealistic. One of my first memories is of putting wooden building blocks in my socks to create instant high heels!'
Following her degree at the prestigious Cordwainers College, Emmy worked for five years in Italy for some of top names in accessories including Bottega Veneta and Georgio Armani.
'When I worked in Italy I was in a really fortunate position to work with the factory that make Manolo Blahnik shoes. The craftsmanship and accuracy of their work has always inspired me to raise the bar.'
On her return to the UK she set her sights high on her own luxury brand and as her friends started getting married, spotted a gap in the market for beautiful, elegant and feminine bridal shoes and brought her unique creative vision to the luxury wedding market. The Emmy brand has since gone from strength to strength, and after 10 years is considered to lead the way in this niche market.
The brand has received huge support from the Press, regularly receiving editorial in all the top bridal publications, from bloggers worldwide and in recent years in the mainstream Press - Emmy was recently tipped as one of the five rising stars in London as part of an article titled 'Bespoke is the new luxury' in The Observer.
Emmy uses vintage inspired lasts, heels and the best Spanish and Italian leathers to create classic, timeless pieces for every occasion from the perfect wedding shoes to the most comfortable courts, to show stopping party shoes. 'My inspiration never really comes from shoes! Although I have a collection of vintage shoes that I just to base some of my last shapes on, I'm really drawn to architecture, I love the structure of windows and doors and the repetition of tiling. Plus jewellery and insects play a big part in the detailing.'
These gorgeous designs are created for you by top craftsmen in our dedicated workshop, using skills passed down the generations to produce Emmy’s complex designs perfectly each time. Emmy’s signature hand beaded decorations add a touch of decadent luxury. Swarovski crystal, Mother of Pearl shell and silk satins are used to embellish the shoes and create stunning and unique accessories.
Each shoe is hand finished with Emmy's gorgeous branding and a Swarovski crystal on the sole, brides often choose a blue crystal for their traditional something blue. Shoes and hair decorations are packaged like presents with Emmy's signature ribbon and crystal boxes, with a shoe bag and care card included to help you keep your shoes looking perfect for years to come.
